Father came home this morning. The Dr doesn’t say much. He is to go in about twice a week, if anything goes wrong Dr. Hempel is to be called. Father seems to be rather weak and the operation didn’t help in the way we thought. I think our old Dr will be dropped. If only Vin. would be at home he at least would surely tell us how things are. As it is we can’t see clear and we feel cheated. That is  quite natural. The old Dr said after this op. Father’ll be completely alright in no time. Well he is certainly a “new man” as he put it, but a bit wobbly one. Poor Mother. He had fever too and they won’t let me call the Dr. I don’t believe them though. And it is still a fortnight before Vin’s leave is up. Perhaps I’ll inquire at his house. – I rang up Leon in the afternoon we had a long talk it was hot. I told him I wanted to see the film on the “perfect” marriage. He told me it was nothing for me. I’m not sure now if he meant the film of the perfect marriage or too latter separately. Doesn’t matter. I promised to ring him up afterward as he would “do everything” to be back by that time. I don’t believe him.

Early in the morning Leon rang me up. It seem we have a different outlook as he apparently was most pleased about yesterday. He is to go abroad on business any day now. Yesterday’s was a farewell visit, though he may not know it. I had a long talk with Dr Szücs the gentleman next room to my Father’s in the Hospital. If it is true he had the same operation as Father though Mother says it is not possible, if so however, it is the preliminary to another one which should be done as soon as they advise it. His son was in too he was slightly embarrassed at first, after all this isn’t exactly a topic of conversation between two young people of different sex, later however he explained everything with the greatest favour. I was most amused. Never would have thought it possible to discuss such questions with a strange young man. I like him though he must be an awfully good son and I find him sympathetic.

Father to come home in two days only. It seems they think another operation is necessary. I. e. they started the sort which is done in two phases. I hate these people. One of the Drs (Hempel) remembered me on account of my appendicitis years ago. He even remembered the room I was in. I couldn’t remember him though. Good to have a friend however. No sign of life of Vin. Of course it is his holiday and he should be left in peace. Perhaps he didn’t even get my letter. When in trouble one is so alone. – I went to see Nora too and afterwards went to Leon’s office under the pretext of setting a minute account of ours. Naturally it was as flimsy a reason as possible. He was nice and I hated myself. I believe it is sheer madness and it must be stopped.

Today Mother went in to see the Drs. It seems she was a bit upset and told them her opinion. Serves then right. Father is to come home tomorrow. I speak with Leon nearly every day. Today we made an appointment to meet in the afternoon, but I phoned him too late so it was off.

Had to go into the Hospital at noon to hear what the Drs have to say. This was not much however. Old Dr S(t)imel(?) was there too more ugly than ever. Met the son of the gentleman in next room. Quite handsome.

I go to Father twice daily. Today Martha was with me too. Ervin goes every day also. He is quite alright but I don’t know what the op. was for. Mother is feeling more at rest now too.

The operation is over and everything alright for the present. The gentleman is in the next room and I went to see him in the evening. He was apparently most pleased. Father keeping well all day. I let Vin. know of the events yesterday. Let him have Maria’s address too.

Father went to the Hospital. He is to be operated tomorrow. He was together with an elderly gentleman for the time. I liked the man.

Mother much better, but now Father in bad condition. Went to see Margareth in the afternoon in Budakeszi. The place is dusty. Her husband on leave too, we had a gay time. The kid sweet. Weather hot. Leon sent the car to fetch me, I was taken to their place in order to fetch him and give him a little chance of talking to me. We were both slightly mad I think. I shed hot tears and he apologised. We are not thinking that this madness shouldn’t have been started, but it is difficult to stop it.

Mother a bit better. It turned cold yesterday. Spoke with Leon in the evening.
